Emerling Floss Murphy & Associates (EFM&A) was founded in July 2020 through the merger of three well-established Western New York insurance agencies. By bringing together their shared expertise and values, these agencies built on more than 200 years of combined experience and over $50 million in annual premium volume to create one stronger, client-focused firm.
Building the Next Generation
The merger brought not only history and expertise but also a new generation of leadership. Dustin Emerling and Jayce Wallace are continuing the proud traditions while helping to shape EFM&A’s future with fresh ideas and proactive leadership.

Emerling Agency
Founded by Norm and Nancy Emerling, the Emerling Agency quickly became known for its client-first approach and strong community values. Over the years, the agency grew under the leadership of dedicated successors, including the late Paul Barone, George Emerling, Scott Medole, and Mark Medole. With a focus on building relationships and delivering trusted insurance solutions, the Emerling Agency established a legacy of service that continues today through the next generation of leadership, including Dustin Emerling.
Meet George Emerling
George Emerling was the Vice President and Director of Operations for Emerling Floss Murphy & Associates. He has been working in the insurance industry for almost 40 years, and has been a proud leader in Clarence, New York, since moving to the town in 1987.
George was born and raised on a Dairy Farm in Springville, NY. He has a BBA from St. Bonaventure University, and has been with the Emerling Agency since 1986. He received his CIC (Certified Insurance Counselor) in 2000. George married his wife Dawn in 1987, and has four children. He enjoys being a member of the Clarence Rotary Club, playing eurchre with friends, pickle ball, running, and cross country skiing.
The Floss Agency
As former President of Floss Agency, Inc. and now partner at Emerling Floss Murphy & Associaties, Joe brings over 40 years of insurance and financial service experience to the company. Additionally, he is the owner of JMF Properties LLC. Having earned the distinct Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation, Floss continues his professional dedication by updating his insurance knowledge every year to stay up to date and informed about the latest insurance products, forms, procedures and services.
Meet Joe Floss
As former President of Floss Agency, Inc. and now partner at Emerling Floss Murphy & Associaties, Joe brings over 40 years of insurance and financial service experience to the company. Joseph Floss is a life-long resident of The Town of Clarence. He is active in several community and civic organizations including: The Rotary Club of Clarence (Past President); Clarence Chamber of Commerce; Chaplain at the East Amherst Volunteer Fire Department; Past Committeeman and Treasurer of the Clarence GOP Committee; etc. He received a BS in Management from Canisius College and is also a graduate of UB’s Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Program where he has served a term on the CELAA Board. Floss resides in Clarence Center with his wife Debbie. He is a member of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Swormville.
Murphy Insurance Agency
The Murphy Insurance Agency was founded by Matthew J. Murphy, whose vision set the foundation for decades of trusted service in Western New York. Leadership continued through the Murphy family, including third-generation owner Mary Murphy, daughter of the late Donald Murphy, who carried forward her family’s dedication to protecting clients with integrity and care. Over the years, the agency became known for its personalized service and strong community ties, a tradition that remains central to EFM&A today.
Meet Mary Murphy
Mary Murphy is a proud third-generation family member in the insurance industry. Her grandfather founded Murphy Insurance in Lockport, NY, in 1925. The agency continued under her father, Donald, before Mary joined the company in 1984. In 1998, she purchased the agency from her father upon his retirement, carrying forward the family legacy.
Mary is based and oversees the Lockport, NY location in the same office where Murphy Insurance has proudly served the community over the years.
A lifelong resident of the City of Lockport, Mary has been deeply involved in community and civic organizations, including serving as past board chair of both the Kenan Center and the YWCA of the Niagara Frontier. She has also been active with the Zonta Club of Lockport and DeSales Catholic School, and she currently serves on the board of the Grigg Lewis Foundation. She is a graduate of the State University of New York at Oswego with a Bachelor of Arts degree and of the University at Buffalo’s Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership Program.
Mary is the proud mother of two sons. She shared her life with her late husband, Kevin Minderler, and continues to honor his memory through her family, work, and community involvement.
